In this article, we will discuss about the Types of Data Networks on Mobiles and Tablets. Anyone who has a mobile device with internet access will have noticed that in general (having the search preference of 3G activated), the symbol of the network is changing, either by the wifi one, or by some letter.
More or less someone versed in its handling knows how to differentiate, and generally it tends to say that the E is low quality, while 4G + or H + are more current speeds, but from there to know why this numbering is a stretch.
So it seemed interesting to me to do this mini-tutorial on the network models that we have in Spain, waiting for 5G.

Types of Data Networks On Mobiles and Tablets

GPRSGPRS allows a higher speed than GSM and is better suited to the data transmission necessary for the geolocation of cars. Typically the symbol is a capital G. A GPRS box works with a modem and a SIM card. It uses the antennas of the GSM / GPRS network, then transfers the data obtained to a processing center which decodes them before transmitting them in a format usable by mapping software. Attention, to be located with GPRS, the car must be in an area covered by the mobile network .
EDGE or EGPRS
Improved data rates for the evolution of GSM. It appears as an E in the status bar. It has been classified as a standard 3G and is used for the transmission of very heavy mobile data. It halves the interval time of the transmission of the previous network and its bitrate is increased. This connection can be very irregular in some areas if the connection towers are not enabled for it.
3G or UMTS
Third generation of mobile systems. You can transfer voice and data. It offers much more security than the old 2G, more data speed and great quality. It works through an IP protocol, so we will not always have it outside of cities. It usually appears with a 3G.
Also called 3G + or 3.5G , it is the optimization of UMTS technology. Significantly improves the maximum capacity for information transfer, so the same network can be used by a higher number of users. An H is the one that indicates that this technology is activated.
Evolution of the previous one, it is a network with a high upload transfer. The applications can be the major beneficiaries of the use of this network because it has more symmetrical ratios of data. It is usually represented by an H +.
4G or LTE
In 2008 it published version 8 of its standards, which for the first time included the fourth generation of mobile telephony, establishing categories 1 to 5 for user equipment. It has higher speeds than 301 Mbit / s (37.6 MB / s) with an 8 MHz radio, and is the one with the most coverage today in our country.
It is what is coming to us lately. With this, compatible smartphone users will be able to benefit from a higher speed that will increase up to 2 Gbps, a latency that drops to 10 ms and greater stability and reliability in the connection, even in mobility or in crowds.
It will really be the development of 5G (ES) technology, and which of course means an increase in the upload speed, an even lower latency and a higher download speed.
